In May 2014, Lena Tonzer joined the department for Financial Markets at the Halle Institute for Economic Research. Since 2019, she also is a SUERF Research Affiliate. From 2017-2022, she was head of the ESF-project "Die politische Ökonomie der europäischen Bankenunion“ and she researches in the fields of International Banking, Financial Intermediation and Regulation, and Financial Crises.
Lena Tonzer studied at the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen and received her doctorate from the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy. From 2017-2021 she lectured at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg and from 2021-2023 at the VU Amsterdam before she started at the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg.
